Here's my attempt at an "I Am Woman" poem inspired by Helen Reddy's iconic song recognizing E. Jean Carroll’s honor of being named to the TIME100---the 100 Most Influential People of 2024.

I Am Woman,

Undiminished

My womanhood pulsates, epicenter

Of the world's delicious revolutions.

I am lush rainforests glistening,

Undulating fertile valleys awaiting exploration.

I am woman, I am life's generous mother -

Swollen with ripened moons and honeyed prophecies.

My body transcends foremothers' hushes,

E. Jean Carroll's defiant roar courses my veins.

I am succulent xylem and phloem ascending,

A verdant cosmos birthing itself endlessly.

Sweet-scented and uncompromising,

I bloom radiantly, petals unfurling lasciviously.

My nipples are tawny buds of pure awakening,

My sex the ancient grail of all quests' beginnings.

Let phalluses kneel at my swollen altar,

As I rewrite the scriptures in my desire's calligraphies.

I am woman, legendary archetype of hunger,

Shapeshifter siren whose sirens never falter.

My voice is the primordial's molten chorus,

Erotic hymns ripening into ecstatic oneness.

Dans ma culotte, l'univers entire se love -

Time's origins pulsate, its endings climax in me.

I am lush fruition, succulent with nectared secrets.

Worship me, creatures, as I reclaim my fecund throne.

"Moment In Life" Inspired by Muziq Soulchild's 'momentinlife'.

A moment in life when

I hear the birds sing and feel the moist breeze,

clouds overcast. I smell a faint incense.

Sifting through pictures, the smell of old,

images of bliss,

memories of no trespassing,

no rewind,

always unfolds.

A moment in life filled with the perfume of herbs,

sweetness on the tongue,

gather and touch,

still shots within blinks.

Song: Piece of my heart by Janis Joplin

“Have another piece of my heart.

Take it. Take another piece of my heart.

You know you got it, if it makes you feel good.”

I had no idea the large mouth bass I caught ,

Slammed on concrete, stunned, jerked, vibrated, spasmed, stiffened.

I thought it was dead. I cut off its head.

My knife enters the belly; insides removed.

Three stage heart still beats.

Placed in a water jar.

Descaled, filleted fish. Secretly. Alone.

My heart beat fast. Hormones rage.

Summer girls in bikinis bathe on bare rocks.

We call them fish.

Summer promises, out of staters arrival.

A time when there are more fish in the sea.

Starlight eyes look up to heavens

Flat bottom boats drift on placid lakes.

Cop a feel, hearts beating. Curiosity.

I see by flashlight bass heart still beats.

Summer retreats last longer than expected.

I am in awe, love this song, didn't know its title or that it was a Caruso song! Wonderful poem too, very personal perspective and emotional.

spawned out of love

you insist on keeping is about

At first I thought of leaving this out, it felt... well... not me, somehow. But it won me over.

Thanks Margaret!

Love the form of the stanzas. The single lines in-between are effective in making sure the poem doesn't grow monotonous or predictable. Those last two lines are powerful and really jumped out at me. I think you did the prompt and song so much justice! Very emotional and philosophical.
